Hand, Robert – John Dee – Astrology & Mage

John Dee was an important Elizabethan intellectual. He was an astrologer, a mathematician, an alchemist, and a student of angelology. Among his important deeds are choosing the time and date of Elizabeth I’s coronation, involvement in early British intelligence (he was the original 007, literally), and he was one of those who urged the desirability of British exploration that led to British claims over North America. He was in fact the person who first coined the term “British Empire” before there even was one. This lecture will talk about the highlights of his career with special emphasis on his astrology.
