“On the seashore of endless worlds, children play.” – Rabindranath Tagore. One of the gifts that astrology gives us is a place to play. A chart is like a well used playroom full of richly imagined symbols, secret signs and codes, rules and rituals, that only the players know, which we use to imagine and peer into endless worlds. Donald Winnicott offered that all good counseling is a form of play, or assisting another in learning or re-learning to play. It may be that the deepest medicine an astrological reading provides in modern life is this imaginal opportunity. How do we offer this as astrologers? What makes for good astrological play?
