Finding the Thread: Ways to Weave Planetary Cycles in the Consultation
Understanding and utilizing multiple astrological techniques is key to a personal and professional practice; communicating that understanding, making it relevant to our lives and the lives of our clients, is another skill entirely. Often the missing piece between the two is our ability to find the right questions to open the consultation space in a generative way. The complexities of planetary cycles give us opportunity to witness how stories weave together, and give us a place to begin.

Embracing the Opposites
Love and Hate, war and misunderstanding can be found in the difficult aspects in our charts. While external blockages and difficulties come from outside, we are asked to use our awareness to hold conflict and contradiction. Oppositions can describe struggle, splitting and separation, but they also pull us into passion, Of all the aspects they have the greatest potential for consciousness. Personal examples will be explored as part of this lecture.

A strong Mars tests boundaries and demands a vigorous response from the person on the receiving end, We will explore how Mars works in personal relationships. Mars is always there and yet we are not always aware of what we are doing with it.

Keys to a Kingdom: Dispositorship Demystified
Despite its ubiquitous nature, leveraging dispositorship (ruling the degree occupied by a planet or point) as a technique has a steep adoption curve, perhaps because so little has been dedicated to its study in the West. Contained within the idea of dispositorship we find acknowledgement of humanity’s wrestling with profound spiritual principles: the contrast between restoration and deprivation, theories on the soul’s interaction with the material, how energy and ideas are transferred from one being to another, etc. Let’s explore.

Mysticism, Reason and Dogmatics
Saturn and Jupiter recently conjoined in Aquarius, heralding a shift into two centuries of recurring conjunctions in air signs. Uranus and Pluto will make their air sign ingresses within the decade. We’re entering into an age of an increased reliance on rationalism, science, and technology mirroring human cognition. Unyielding in its dogmatics, scientism seeks to further destabilize the role of mysticism for the individual and collective. As astrologers, we are uniquely positioned to respond within ourselves, our relationships, our communities..

36 Dramas: Essential Planetary Relationships
Relationships between planets are at the core of astrology. The planets’ contentions, alliances, partnerships, and attacks upon one another are the central drama described by every chart. At the heart of each of these stories is a pair of planets, their signature dynamics played out in a mythic cycle. This workshop is a return to those fundamental relationships. Using Hellenistic texts on planetary pairs, two-planet Lot formulae, Vedic dwigraha yogas, and theories of planetary friendship and enmity, we will spend the day exploring the 36 fundamental combinations of the 7 visible planets and the Head and Tail of the Dragon.

Planetary Charity
A doctor who can accurately diagnose but possesses no medicine is a frustrating oracle. In astrology, this step from diagnosis to prescription brings us to the art and science of remediation. There are many modalities of remediation, yet the most universal and kind is Planetary Charity. By recognizing the suffering we are destined to encounter and engaging with it in a conscious, helpful, way, we relieve our own difficulties. This lecture teaches the perspective and technical intricacies of this method.

Planetary Decades
Planetary Decades, also called Decennials, is a simple, clear, and useful Hellenistic timing technique. Though described by Hephaestio of Thebes, Vettius Valens, and Firmicus Maternus, it has yet to receive the attention it deserves. Partaking of the timing logic of Zodiac Releasing, and giving results similar to Firdaria and Vimshottari Dasha, it is simple to calculate, and is the perfect system to show when an aspect between planets will deliver on its full natal promise.

Work Your Angles: Cultivating (Mid)Heavenly Presence
“Branding” is a frequent challenge faced by sole proprietors attempting to attract ideal clients. By delving deep into the needs of the Ascendant as styled by the public-facing prowess of the Midheaven, we can begin to paint a self-presentation portrait that allows for accurate & aligned showing up. Based on a proprietary approach to “astroaesthetics,” this workshop will lead participants through a re-contextualization and re-purposing of the Ascendant, Midheaven, and their planetary rulers. We’ll work to better acknowledge the importance of self-presentation as self-preservation and how deliberately-decided aesthetic language participates in personal success.

In the aftermath of the initiation of the Age of Air, attending to the dynamics between these two heavy-hitters in individual natal charts can assist us in discerning how we can “think globally, act locally.” All of us carry both vision & constructive potency; by building a bridge between Jupiter & Saturn, we build a bridge to the future.

Astrology and the Experience of the Erotic: Love, Pleasure, and Sexuality
Audre Lorde wrote that the erotic is “the measure between the beginnings of our sense of self and the chaos of our strongest feelings”.  In Greco-Roman cosmology, all our planetary pantheon were grandchildren of Eros, of Love, Desire, Life Force.  Eros was also companion to Psyche/Soul. This workshop will offer ways to experience the erotic through connecting with astrological symbolism.  We explore Venus and Mars, sometimes called parents of Eros, but also other planets and configurations as they express and mediate this powerful energy, to deepen our relationship with many facets of the erotic: love, pleasure, desire, sexuality, and aliveness/livingness. This workshop will
include discussion of sexuality; graphic imagery will be avoided, however
descriptions of sexual experiences may occur.  The workshop is also an
LGBTQIA+ affirming and visible space; please bring a spirit of mutual respect
and delight!

The Sun and Intrapsychic Coherence
The Sun’s has the most obvious role in setting the rhythms of our lives and cohering our planet’s journey through the cosmos. The solar gods Helios and Apollo were also associated with an arrow that did not miss its mark, and a reliable daily journey of circular motion. They were also consulted for answers: Helios saw everything that happened on Earth, and Apollo was the god of prophecy. How can we experience the knowing and centering of the Sun?

Jupiter in Pisces and Aries: Different Worlds and Different Humans
Greek myths of Pisces and Aries both include beautiful instances of rescue of humans by animals.  The Pisces story unfolds amid apocalypse; the Aries story explores finding one’s place in the world.  Jupiter’s transit seems an opportunity to imagine what Jayna Brown calls “postapocalyptic ecologies” and different ways of being human animals within them.  Jupiter’s world-making perspective inflected through these signs may help us restore and re-story our relationship with the other-than-human world.

Radical Elections
At the root of any action lie the seeds of the past. In electional astrology, any chart we choose for our beginning is always connected with “root” charts, including nativities, other inceptions, and mundane events. These roots ground the elected action within evolving personal stories as well as collective concerns. This talk examines radical elections, demonstrating specific techniques for rooting our charts, situating this practice within the tradition, and contemplating how our astrology may grow when we take roots seriously.

How Planetary Archetypes Change Through Time
As the human condition evolves, so do the meanings of the planets. Each outer planet was considered negative when first discovered. When new planets are discovered, the archetypes of traditional planets change. Saturn stopped breaking rules when Uranus became the modern ruler of Aquarius. Jupiter surrendered its Piscean qualities when Neptune entered the scene. Mars became more warrior and less lover when Scorpio was given to Pluto. How do these and other factors change our perceptions of the planets? (Modern) (Intermediate)

Planets Square the Nodes
When a planet squares the nodal axis, it describes a pattern like a karmic merry-go-round – where the soul has cycled between the south and north node throughout a number of life times.  In essence, the north node is part of the past life stories, and the soul is here to find balance and to resolve the karmic imbalance.  We’ll explore this interesting pattern through chart examples of different planets square the nodes.

Surviving Outer Planet Transits
The hard aspects (conjunction, square and opposition) from transits from the outer planets are often the most difficult and trying times in a person’s life. The outer planets are called transpersonal because they are beyond the reach of the ego, thus individuals are experiencing things outside of their control. However, the outer planets are agents of our evolution in consciousness. We will explore these powerful transits both in their disruptive manifestations as well as their evolutionary potential.

The Next Dimension: Astrology’s Role in an Enlightened Collapsing Society

What is the role of the astrologer at this vortex of a crossroads? We hold the map in our hands. Can we connect as community and elevate our art to be a force for positive change—or will the uncontrollable array of content ruin any credibility we create?

Relationship Evolution: Progressed Composites & Synastry
Although natal charts reflect our core nature, over time we embody the secondary progressed chart as an overlay to the natal. This applies to relationship composites and synastry too, providing powerful medicine for couples consultations. Natal charts provide the fundamental blueprint; progressed charts depict emerging themes, strengths, and weaknesses. Using Evolutionary Astrology, we’ll explore transition and growth periods in progressed charts that may not show up in natal analysis.

Steve Wolfson

I have lived as a seeker. I discovered Greenwich Village in the mid-60’s at age 15. The trajectory was set. Haight-Ashbury, 1967 Summer of Love. Woodstock festival. Ten years in a spiritual commune. Later, raising a family and gaining computer skills. Twenty years later the Muse called again. I moved to Australia and then to Oregon. Pluto had transited my Ascendant - I sought new life directions. I found new direction in the work of Evolutionary Astrologer Jeffrey Wolf Green. While studying with Jeffrey, I developed an astrological practice helping clients align with their soul purpose. Recent years have drawn me internal, learning to befriend my own deep insecurities, shame, and sense of unworthiness. My practice and focus have shifted to helping people emotionally integrate the wisdom Evolutionary Astrology’s insights provide. Learning how to be ok with all that we feel, to ground in the present moment.

Deepening Your Life’s Alignment With Your Soul’s Intentions
I see us in a time of vast acceleration of growth. Change so in your face that it is difficult to integrate. Change so strong it can traumatize. What is no longer relevant gets sheared away. Change that may feel forced on me. Some are excited. Others are fearful, choosing denial, attempting to stop the waves of change in any way possible. Perhaps we find both of these voices within us. The “me” I’ve known for so long seems to be drifting away. What is going on? Who am I now? Where am I now? How will I survive this? Will I survive this? A significant shift for me has been the gradual realization that all of this, with its pain and inconvenience, is all for my benefit. Life really is On My Side. Somehow, in the long run, it all works out. I am changed because of the experiences I would never have consciously chosen. I don’t have to like any of this. It’s OK to hate it, if that is how I feel. I’m unlikely to feel it while I’m in the fray, but somehow, over time, I may actually find spontaneous gratitude appearing. Gratitude for what I have become as a direct result of the changes I survived.
