In this workshop, Mark will present a vision of the natal chart as a template for understanding ourselves in relationships. Judith leads us through the basic steps of medical chart evaluation with riveting case studies. Sunday / 2:30 pm – Astrological Medicine and Traditional Herbalism

Lecture Description:
Rilke famously wrote, “I believe in Night.” The ancients said the planets modern astrology associates with relationships – the Moon, Venus, and Mars – were followers of Night. We feel contact from others most closely – and often alarmingly to our put-together Daytime selves – when they connect with us through Lunar needs, Venusian attractions, Martian passions. In the shifting and often-destabilizing spaces of Night and relationship we encounter mystery and depths in ourselves and others unknowable in daylight. Drawing from ancient myth and modern psychotherapy we will ‘psychologize’ traditional sect doctrine and explore Night mysteries found in every chart.

Astrologers are becoming increasingly more conversant in matters of dignity and debility, i.e., the measure a planet’s efficiency and efficacy. Unfortunately, historical texts leave much to desire in explaining how far an astrologer should conflate ‘dignified’ with ‘good’, and clarity on this point vacillates in modern times. Too often we discount the power of debilitated planets, not recognizing that in them lies the secret to adaptive creativity. Through horary and nativities, let’s unpack debility and see for ourselves.

Astrology’s star is rising, yet we still have many detractors. We all encounter doubters. Some are just ignorant. Some actually attack. How can we respond? Often it is inappropriate to offer a lecture. Getting angry never works. What we need are quick responses: zingers aimed at informing people and making them think rather than hurting anyone. For those of us working with quadrant houses, it’s not unusual to find signs intercepted between house cusps. While there isn’t much explicitly stated about this phenomenon in historical texts, there’s plenty to be read between the lines. This lecture explores the principle of house cusps, what it means for a sign to be between them, and how to work with them in chart interpretation. Modern horary & natal charts will be used for demonstrating that intercepted signs aren’t a flaw of quadrant systems, but rather a tremendously useful feature to the discerning astrologer!

How long should an astrological consultation be? How to structure it and how much to charge? What are client and astrologer expecting from each other? Lecture Description:
Come along for a whirlwind tour of the 36 Faces of the Zodiac— the Decans. Each Decan is 1/3 of a sign, 10 degrees. We all know that the beginning, middle, and end of each sign are different, and the Decans give us the vocabulary to describe those distinct potencies. Once the overview of the Decans is complete, we’ll then practice delineating charts using them, and test out some of fun and fascinating Decan-specific techniques found in historical texts, which range from gauging how lecherous a nativity is to deciding on tattoo placement.

Speaker Lecture Schedule:

Friday/ 4:15 pm PDT – Twelve Perspectives on a Chart: Houses from Houses

Saturday/ 2:30 pm PDT – The Celestial Lapidary: Beyond Birthstones

Lecture Description:
What makes evolutionary astrology different from all other branches of our craft is that we ask WHY you have the chart you have. We know the answer must exist in the mysterious time zone before your present birth. What karma has ripened? What unresolved issues from your karmic past are surfacing in this lifetime? Two truths: 1) Those issues – and people – will present themselves again in this lifetime, and 2) you are ready to resolve them and not repeat them.

Speaker Bio:
Steven Forrest is the author of several astrological bestsellers including, The Inner Sky. His work has been translated widely and he has traveled world-wide teaching his brand of choice-centered evolutionary astrology—an astrology which integrates free will, grounded humanistic psychology and ancient metaphysics. Over two thousand people have passed through his Astrological Apprenticeship program since its inception in 1998. He won the 2018 Regulus Award for Education. forrestastrology@gmail.com
