An Invitation to Destiny: Nodal Transits to the Angles

The Lunar Nodes symbolize moments where fate meets destiny. While the transiting Nodes are often overlooked in consultations, they in fact indicate pivotal periods of choice meeting opportunity. A transit of the Nodes to the Angles of the natal chart may seem subtle at the time, but we can often see in hindsight a shift in the path of destiny which at its best can lead to greater authenticity and meaningful change.

Undignified & Unapologetic: The Raw Creativity of Debilitated Planets

Astrologers are becoming increasingly more conversant in matters of dignity and debility, i.e., the measure a planet’s efficiency and efficacy. Unfortunately, historical texts leave much to desire in explaining how far an astrologer should conflate ‘dignified’ with ‘good’, and clarity on this point vacillates in modern times. Too often we discount the power of debilitated planets, not recognizing that in them lies the secret to adaptive creativity. Through horary and nativities, let’s unpack debility and see for ourselves.

Intercepted Signs

For those of us working with quadrant houses, it’s not unusual to find signs intercepted between house cusps. While there isn’t much explicitly stated about this phenomenon in historical texts, there’s plenty to be read between the lines. This lecture explores the principle of house cusps, what it means for a sign to be between them, and how to work with them in chart interpretation. Modern horary & natal charts will be used for demonstrating that intercepted signs aren’t a flaw of quadrant systems, but rather a tremendously useful feature to the discerning astrologer!

Twelve Perspectives on a Chart: Houses from Houses

Each House within the chart has its own viewpoint. From the Ninth House’s perspective, for example, the Second House is the Sixth, and the Tenth is the Second. Though thinking this way is initially confusing, learning to see the Houses-from-Houses is extremely useful, as it can show when obstacles become assets, and vice versa. In this lecture we’ll look at what each House’s perspective on the rest is, and nail down when and why to shift your viewpoint.

Exploring the Decans

Come along for a whirlwind tour of the 36 Faces of the Zodiac— the Decans. Each Decan is 1/3 of a sign, 10 degrees. We all know that the beginning, middle, and end of each sign are different, and the Decans give us the vocabulary to describe those distinct potencies. Once the overview of the Decans is complete, we’ll then practice delineating charts using them, and test out some of fun and fascinating Decan-specific techniques found in historical texts, which range from gauging how lecherous a nativity is to deciding on tattoo placement.

Fierce Compassion: Natal Astrology as Radical Self-Care

Many of our sufferings, anxieties, and insecurities can be traced back to the “shoulds” and “shames” given us by a socioeconomic reality whose value system prioritizes consumption over care. Astrology can provide a cosmic framework for understanding the impacts of dehumanizing social structures, and then act as a tool for liberating ourselves from perspectives that erode humane connection with ourselves and the world around us. This is radical self-care; this is astrology as fierce compassion towards a more loving world.

Interpreting Eclipses by Nodal Polarity (Conjunctions with Natal Planets)

A transit eclipse occurs conjunct a natal planet. This is a big deal! However, the correct interpretation of this stellar event depends entirely on its true “polarity”, as designated by the North and South Lunar Nodes, the proverbial “Dragon’s Head”, and “Dragon’s Tail”. First, who and what does the eclipsed planet signify in your personal life? What are its mental, emotional, medical or vocational implications? Noting “which end is up”, (literally, Heads or Tails), is imperative to correct evaluation!

Believing in the Night: Moon, Venus, and Mars in Relationships

Rilke famously wrote, “I believe in Night.” The ancients said the planets modern astrology associates with relationships – the Moon, Venus, and Mars – were followers of Night. We feel contact from others most closely – and often alarmingly to our put-together Daytime selves – when they connect with us through Lunar needs, Venusian attractions, Martian passions. In the shifting and often-destabilizing spaces of Night and relationship we encounter mystery and depths in ourselves and others unknowable in daylight. Drawing from ancient myth and modern psychotherapy we will ‘psychologize’ traditional sect doctrine and explore Night mysteries found in every chart.

The Consultation

How long should an astrological consultation be? How to structure it and how much to charge? What are client and astrologer expecting from each other? Very often we spend hours of study on astrological techniques; it is necessary to do so if one is to become a good astrologer. But I feel we avoid discussing central themes to our practice: an ethical framework and pragmatic information on how to approach consultations, the work we more often do. In the talk, I hope to share some ideas and practices that may help you configure your own approach to working with clients.

Each generation comes of age and must confront a shadow that both terrifies and tempts. Gliding through the surface of pop culture, art, and music from the 1950s to the present, we’ll show how, hiding in plain sight, Pluto’s transit through the generations creates both crisis and the possibility of redemption.

The Physics of Evolutionary Astrology

NORWAC 2019 Rick Levine quoted Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, who said “Matter is spirit moving slowly enough to be seen”. Einstein’s famous equation is e=mc2. Einstein’s equation can be changed into e/c2 = m; Energy (spirit) divided by the speed of light squared (reduced speed) creates mass (matter). Einstein’s changed equation shows that the “soul” is energy. Astrological architypes and principles can be used to support the principles of evolutionary astrology of a soul re-incarnating over many lifetimes

Microcosms of Time: Zodiacal Releasing’s Multiple Levels

Breakdown precedes rebuilding, but we must first navigate the current “collective psychosis” while the shadow erupts, ultimately seeking deeper integration. Polarities and fragmentation run amok as “Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world”. What really is…seeking to be born?

Re-Imagining Astrology

In the noblest sense, the purpose of the practice of astrology is to restore connection where there has been estrangement…from oneself, from nature and the cosmos itself. Astrology is a bridge between the macrocosm and microcosm…the inner and outer, and as Astrologers we interpret this intersection of psyche and cosmos, when we practice our ‘Soulful Science’. How do we participate in this sacred role? What tools do we have to create connection and meaning in a world that breeds alienation?
